Rangers reinstate reliever Peyton Gray, option Adam Macko to Round Rock

Texas activated Peyton Gray from the 15-day injured list and sent left-hander Adam Macko to Triple-A Round Rock to clear a roster spot.

The Texas Rangers activated reliever Peyton Gray from the 15-day injured list on Monday, the club announced. To open a spot on the active roster, right-hander Adam Macko was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Gray, 31, joined the Rangers' major league roster in late April and became one of manager Skip Schumaker's trusted options in late innings. Across 48 appearances and 55 innings this season, he posted a 3.93 ERA with a 4.15 FIP.

Those season numbers were dragged down by a rough closing stretch. Over his final seven outings, Gray allowed eight runs in seven innings, including four home runs, in the two weeks before elbow soreness sent him to the injured list at the end of August.

Macko had been a short-term bullpen addition, most recently finishing Sunday's 7-2 loss to Toronto. The Rangers chose to keep Winston Santos on the roster instead, valuing his ability to provide multiple innings of relief.
